Carbon Block Filters
Carbon block water filters are made using finely powdered activated carbon particles that have been secured together to form a totally uniform, hard profile with superior adsorptive capacity and peppy efficiency.
The Carbon Block Filters have been used from ages to filter impurities from potable water. Carbon media is a very powerful absorbent; half kg of carbon contains a surface area of 125 acres (0.5 square km). The material has millions tiny pores of 5 microns, the microscopic pores are invisible to a normal eye, and can absorb hundreds of water contaminants. Carbon Block. Activated Carbon is a material that has a positive charge, which helps attracting even more impurities. Generally, Carbon Block Filters ( or “charcoal filters” ) have more contaminant removal capability than GAC filters, and they usually have a higher cost.
Activated Carbon and “Block” Filters a usually rated by size of the particles it can remove. Typical ratings are from 50 micron (least effective) to 5 micron (most effective). Pure Bahrain generally uses 5 micron carbon blocks in our systems, because it gives us very effective absorption capabilities in combination with acceptable water flow rates. However, in Bahrain in many applications we use granular carbon before carbon block filter, such as in removing chlorine and chloramines (combined chlorine).
Although various sizes of carbon filter exist, four are generally used for drinking water filtration in Bahrain: Height 10″ x 2.5″ , 20″ x 2.5″ , 20″ x 4.5″ & 25KG Bag. Filter Cartridges are coconut shell type. Coconut shell variety is most effective for most water filtration. We typically use coconut shell carbon in our systems.
As per our experience with Bahrain’s Municipality water treatment, chlorine and chloramine is always challenging us which causes the membrane blockage. By keeping this fact in mind Pure Bahrain always investigate the suppliers of Carbon Filters prior to buying to make sure we are getting the right coconut shell material to avoid any future to the Water system.
